Remembering My Dear Friend
Emily Jeanette Garcia
Our Tribute To Percy "Ben" Williams
As most of you may already know from following Emily's murder
case, the one things that we have wanted most throughout our 20 years of investigation is for one of Emily's friends to finally
come forward and contact us.....Well, that has finally happened and we wanted to share this with all of you.
Percy "Ben" Williams was a friend of Emily's that she had
dated a few times before her murder. His name has been on Emily's web site as one of her friends we wanted to locate. It
has been there for 10 long years now. We had just about given up on the idea of ever hearing from any of the friends
on her "Friends List", when out of the blue, Ben contacted me by phone asking me if I was Emily's aunt. You could have knocked
me over with a feather when he told me who he was. At first I didn't know whether to be excited, to even believe he was who
he said that he was, or if maybe it was just some sicko pulling a very bad joke. After talking with him for a while,
I knew he was who he said that he was.
You can't even begin to know the emotions that go through
you after waiting for so many years just for this very moment...and then when it does happen you just aren't sure if it's
a dream or it's really happening.
So much has happened since that first phone call with Ben.
He has been in constant contact with Emily's mother Sheila, myself(Theresa) & Emily's sister Elizabeth. He has become
part of our family...a missing part that has been gone since Emily was taken from us. Not only have we got to discuss with
Ben the days & weeks before Emily's murder, but we have got to share wonderful stories and memories with one another.
It has been a wonderful time for all of us to remember Emily and all of the love that each of us have for her.
Ben has also become very involved with helping us in our investigation
into Emily's murder, by providing us with names, information, and etc that he knew about Emily's circle of friends that we
didn't know. He has also built a wonderful tribute to Emily on his Facebook page along with offering a $10,000 reward toward
the conviction of her killer. Ben has become invaluable to our family, not only for all of his help and support, but by telling
us about his relationship to Emily and showing us how deeply he cared for her and still does. That means more to our family
than we can ever begin to tell him.
Thank you, Ben, not only for contacting us to let us know
that there really is someone out there that knew and cared for Emily, but for now becoming part of our family that has nothing
to do with blood relations. In my eyes, you are our true friend and our true family. I not only say this from the bottom
of my heart, but also from Emily's mother Sheila and Emily's sister Elizabeth.
God Bless You!
Theresa(Emily's Aunt)
There is one story that my sister Sheila(Emily's mom) shared
with me years ago about Ben Williams and it has stuck in my mind all of these years and I would like to share it with you.
About 10 years ago while Sheila and I were talking about Emily's
list of friends so that I could add it to her web site, Sheila told me about the few times that Emily had dated Ben. I remember
this because not only was Sheila impressed by him, but also Emily. It seems that he had came to Sheila's house to pick up
Emily for their date. This was not normally the way Emily's dates occurred. Usually she met them somewhere or they would just
hook up, but this guy came to her house. It takes a lot to impress my sister, trust me, but Ben had. Not only had he came
to their home to pick Emily up, but he had brought her flowers, was dressed very nicely, and was taking Emily to a very nice
restaraunt to eat. Emily was so excited, not only by the flowers and him picking her up for their date, but by the fact that
he was taking her out for a steak and shrimp dinner in a very nice place....Emily loved food so Ben had really scored
high with her in this aspect. Ha!
When Emily returned from her date with Ben, she told her mother
and her sister that Ben was the only man that had ever treated her that nicely and with so much respect, so you can see
why reconnecting with him now is so very special to us. When Ben talks about his times he shared with Emily with us, you can
hear in his voice the amount of tender caring that he had for her and still does to this day. As he explained to us, even
though he and Emily didn't become a couple and stopped dating after a while, that they still remained very close and dear
friends. It just feels wonderful for us to know that she shared that lovable and adorable side of herself with someone else
other than us and that he remembers her with such love.
